Army Cadet Expedition Training

Army Cadets is one of Canada's oldest youth organizations with Army Cadet Corps formed prior to confederation in 1867. From 1867 to the present day Army Cadets has maintained its commitment to developing in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership and to promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyle choices. Such goals are achieved through a variety of program means including military drill, marksmanship training, public speaking, instructorship and leadership training, first aid training, citizenship activities, sports and fitness activities and expedition training.

The expedition training component of the Army Cadet Training Program exemplifies the above commitment. It is a vehicle through which Army Cadets can increase their positive self-perception, further develop their leadership ability, and increase their interpersonal skills. Through a wide variety of fun, safe, exciting and challenging outdoor adventure pursuits conducted at the local, regional, national and international levels, Army Cadets are presented with opportunities to further develop their abilities. Some examples of outdoor adventure training that cadets currently enjoy include the following.

  • trekking
  • kayaking
  • mountain biking
  • rafting
  • rock climbing
  • abseiling voyager
  • canoe tripping
  • orienteering & navigation
  • ropes challenge course
  • expeditions
