Royal Canadian Army Cadets

Army Cadets began forming corps in 1879 and today comprise 450 corps and boast numbers of 21,000 strong and growing. The Royal Canadian Army Cadets is a national youth organization supported by the Army Cadet League of Canada, a civilian non profit organization, and the Canadian Forces who partner to provide uniforms, equipment, training, financial support and accommodations to Army Cadets.

• The Canadian Cadet Movement (CCM) is the largest federally-sponsored youth program in Canada.

• CCM programs are offered to young Canadian men and women aged 12 to 18 years and aims to:

develop in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership; promote physical fitness; and stimulate an interest in the activities of the Canadian Forces.

• Army Cadet training at the corps level occurs between September 1 and June 30 of the following year. Training is centered around teaching the Star Programme and participating in citizenship, leadership and physical fitness activities. Optional training may include music and biathlon. Activities may include:
  
• map and compass
• drill
• camping
• rock climbing
• marksmanship

• Summer training occurs during the months of July and August and provides Army Cadets with opportunities to:
  
  • travel with provincial or international exchanges focusing on adventure training and cultural activities
  • meet people from across Canada
  • learn new skills
  • compete in sporting events
  • qualify for advanced training

• The Army Cadet program:
  
  • equips cadets with the tools necessary to challenge themselves to become better leaders and citizens
  • provides cadets with the possibility of travel and adventure
  • presents opportunities to develop lifelong friendships.
