Outward Bound Wales Exchange for 2003
This
past summer was by far my most enjoyable summer with cadets. I took part
in the Outward Bound Wales Exchange for 2003.
I flew from BC to Connaught
National Cadet Summer Training Centre, where I completed a five-day pre-course
with PT testing, a confidence course, and an endurance march.
Then it
was off to England where we stayed in cadet camps and military bases.
We trained with the British Army Cadet Force and Combined Cadet Force.
The exchange involved touring and learning about British lifestyle, adventure
training, British cadet training, and lots of traveling!
My group leader
for the first week was a Lt-Col. and he had some ‘connections’,
so he set-up our group to visit the Royal Marine Commando’s endurance
course, which cadets do not usually see. The course is used as one of
the tests for commando recruit training.
Other highlights of my trip
included but were not limited to: instruction on some British Army guns,
caving, touring castles, and playing soccer (or football as they call
it) with the British cadets.
After four weeks of being overseas, it was
back to Canada where I spent a few more days at Connaught. I then found
myself employed as a staff cadet at Blackdown Army Cadet Summer Training
Center. I had a great two weeks of staff, where I was a sergeant in Foxtrot
Company. Finally, I was flown back home to BC and I can’t wait
for next summer to come around!
