Return to Vimy
Overview
The purpose of this tour will be to review key moments in the Canadian European battle efforts of both wars. Participants will have the opportunity to tour battlefields, visit museums and other important sites, as well as attend the reopening ceremony for our National Memorial Monument at Vimy Ridge.
This historic event will also be attended by 3,648 Canadian Children – representing each of the fallen soldiers at Vimy - as well as Canadian and French dignitaries. It is worth noting that the reopening ceremony falls on exactly the same date, day and holiday when the original Battle for Vimy Ridge commenced - April 9 1917, Easter Monday.

Timetable
April 2
All guests must be at Terminal 3 of Lester B Pearson Airport, no latter than 1745 hrs, in order to be present for security clearances for Air Canada Flight 880, leaving at 2045 hrs, for Paris, France.
April 3
Arrive at Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, France, and greeted in the arrivals area at 1000 hrs. Travel to Normandy and visit Pegasus Bridge, the first event of D-Day which occurred at 2320 hours on June 5, 1944. Tour the excellent museum as well as visit the only fully reconstructed German fortification in Normandy called “The Bunker”.
April 4
Normandy – D-Day on the beaches. Visit the Juno beaches - Canadian beaches – Berniere, Saint-Aubin and Courseulles. Follow the Canadian advance that afternoon stopping at Buron. On the way visit the RCAF Forward landing area established on June 7, 1944. Proceed to the key Canadian Cemetery of the area located outside the town of Beny-sur-Mer for a brief ceremony. Our day is complete with a late afternoon tour of the German Costal Battery of Langrune-sur-Mer, which was featured in the film “The Longest Day”.
April 5
Tour the town of Authie at 0900 hrs and then depart at 1000 hrs for 12th SS HQ at l’ Abbaye Ardennes. Lunch in Authie followed by tours of Omaha Beach, Point du Hoc and Sainte-Mère-Église. Travel to Le Mesnil-Patry for a complete overview of the events at that location by the mayor. Supper will be at that location with the local dignitaries.
April 6
Depart for WWI Areas. But first tour the infamous main Canadian landing site at Dieppe and then proceed onward to witness and participate in The Belgian Bugle Ceremony at the Menin Gates of Ypres.
April 7
Tour Mont Sorel, Hill 62, Sanctuary Woods, Brooding Soldier Monument, Saint-Julien and Essex Farm, LCol John Macrae’s famous Advanced Dressing Station, all found in the famous Ypres Salient.
April 8
Depart for Arras and the WWI area of the Somme. Tour Beaumont Hamel, Courcelette, and Pozieres, all part of the July 1 1916 offensive. See also the famous and stately British Thiepval Memorial for the tremendous number of soldiers with no known grave who went missing in the various Battles of the Somme.
April 9
Join the reopening ceremonies of the famed Vimy Memorial just after visiting the French National Monument to War at Notre-Dame-de-Lorette. Following the ceremony proceed to the famed Vimy subway system and the local Canadian cemeteries including Cabaret Rouge. Lastly visit the somber German Cemetery for the region.
April 10
Return to Paris – CDG Airport by 0900 hrs for your return flight

Important Travel Information
Identification
Canadian citizens require a passport valid for the period six months after the start of the tour. It is the passenger’s responsibility to have the proper documents. Failure to have proper documents is not covered by any cancellation insurance.
Visas
Canadian citizens do not require a visa to enter France.
Luggage
Limit of one suitcase and one small tote bag as hand luggage per person. Porterage is not always available.
Escorts
All tours are guided by an experienced Canadian escort who will personally meet you at Charles de Gaulle Airport and remain with you until the end of the tour when you enter the departures lounge of the airport.
