WINNIPEG, MB (May 5, 2025) – The Army Cadet League of Canada (The League) and The Young Citizens Foundation (YCF) congratulate Cadet MWO Nicholas Kadyk from Grand Prairie, Alberta and member of the 2850 Grand Prairie, Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps,who has recently been named the recipient of the 2025 Young Citizens Foundation (YCF) Scholarship.
The fundamental purpose and goal of The Young Citizens Foundation is to assist young Canadians to grow and mature as committed, knowledgeable and contributing Canadian citizens.
As the recipient of this scholarship, Cadet Kadyk will receive $5,000 to help cover tuition costs during his post secondary communications studies.
Cadet Kadyk has emerged as a model of excellence and commitment through a remarkable series of accomplishments that span leadership roles, national competitions, and international experiences.
In 2023, Kadyk participated in a Regional Expedition in Spruce Woods, showcasing resilience and teamwork in a demanding outdoor environment. Building on that momentum, her earned a spot in the Provincial Biathlon in Camrose the same year, demonstrating athleticism and mental discipline in one of the most challenging cadet competitions.
His competitive spirit continued into 2025 with qualification for the Marksmanship Zones in Grande Prairie. This was complemented by his consistent excellence in drill, having represented his unit at the Tri-Service Drill Team Provincials in Edmonton across three different years—2020, 2023, and 2024—as well as competing in the Kozar Cup Drill Competition in 2024.
Taking on more responsibility, Cadet Kadyk served as Assistant Team Leader during two additional Regional Expeditions: Spruce Woods in 2024 and Riding Mountain in 2025. These leadership roles marked a shift from participant to mentor, helping guide younger cadets through rigorous outdoor challenges.
One of the most prestigious highlights of his Cadet career was being selected for the Maple Leaf Exchange program in 2024, representing Canada in the United Kingdom and fostering international cadet relations.
In recognition of outstanding service and achievement, Kadyk has been awarded several high honors: the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the Lord Strathcona Medal, the Army Cadet Service Medal, and the distinguished MGen Howard Medal.
Through a blend of leadership, skill, and service, Cadet Kadyk has not only excelled personally but also contributed significantly to the development of his peers and their community.
