Chief Warrant Officer Geoffrey Reed has added another remarkable achievement to an already impressive cadet career, becoming the recipient of the 2026 Young Citizens Foundation (YCF) Scholarship.
The announcement was made during the Army Cadet League of Canada’s national conference in Calgary this past May, where Reed was present to receive the news in person. The moment made the occasion especially meaningful, as he became the first army cadet to be both recognized as Canada’s Top Army Cadet and named a recipient of the Young Citizens Foundation Scholarship.
The Young Citizens Foundation Scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding Army Cadet pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship recognizes cadets who exemplify academic excellence, leadership, citizenship, and a commitment to serving their communities. It reflects the Foundation’s mission of helping young Canadians grow into knowledgeable, engaged and contributing citizens.
For Reed, the scholarship is the latest milestone in a cadet career defined by exceptional achievement.
Last year, he was named the 2025 recipient of the Medal of Merit with Walsh Bar for Outstanding Canadian Army Cadet, one of the highest honours presented by the Army Cadet League of Canada. The award recognizes a single cadet each year who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership, service, and personal development throughout their cadet journey.
His cadet career has been marked by excellence in marksmanship, biathlon, leadership, and instructional roles, earning him numerous distinctions at the corps, regional, and national levels.
Receiving the Young Citizens Foundation Scholarship in front of members of the Army Cadet League of Canada gathered in Calgary added another memorable chapter to Reed’s story. Rather than learning of the honour virtually or after the fact, he was able to share the moment with members of the Army Cadet community who have watched his growth as a leader over the years.
